Statue of William, Prince of Orange, Brixham, [after 1889]

A photograph/mixed media representation of a statue of William, Prince of Orange, in Brixham, undated, but after 1889, the year the statue was unveiled. Paint has been applied as an overlay. Metallic effect (possibly pen) on the illustration of the figure and in the surrounding water. The depiction also illustrates the iron railings around the statue, which were later removed. 

William, Prince of Orange arrived to claim the throne from James II in 1688.

The inscription reads:

WILLIAM

PRINCE OF ORANGE, AFTERWARDS

WILLIAM III.

KING OF GREAT BRITAIN & IRELAND

LANDED NEAR THIS SPOT

5TH NOVEMBER 1688

AND ISSUED HIS FAMOUS DECLARATION

"THE LIBERTIES OF ENGLAND

AND

THE PROTESTANT RELIGION

I WILL MAINTAIN".

The statue has been Grade II listed since October 1949.
