Colcombe house, near Colyton, was erected by
the Earls of Devon in the time of Edward the first,
but on the attainder of Henry, marquis of Exeter the
crumbling edifice was left to ruin. On its coming
into possession of Sir William De la Pole, the author
of the Collection for the history of this County, he [new]
Built the house, and made it his place of residence.
It is now the property of this descendant Sir W. [I.?]
De la Pole, but is again in a State of decay.
