Artist notes and sketch, dated by the artist July 27 1819.
[Working transcription:]
On Leaving Porlock the Clouds were low & [dense?]
& it was impossible to See any distance. On passing
through [Bosington?] Saw a Building, which from
the Crop on the Gable End & the windows & [but
tress?] had the appearance of having been a Chapel.
On ascending the Hill above [Bosington?] the
Clouds were so low as to prevent the distance being
seen any way.- On approaching Minehead they
began to [disperse?] & the Tower on a Hill near
[Dunster?] appeared under a fine Gloomy & [???]
like Effect.-
[sketch]
Found much at Minehead to [deplore?] as a [???] Houses
falling down many down & other Razed to the Ground,
for this Especial Good Reason, that [Sir?] Luttrell shall re-
turn two members to parliament without opposition, such
is man as a politician.
at Dunster walked around the Castle in the Park & town
it is well situated but a great deal of Bad taste is
displayed in the manner in which the Grounds are
laid out & instead of having a rich feel & romantic
Effect which the Situation warrants there is the ap-
pearance of [meagreness?] and artifice visible through
the whole. _________________ July 27. 1819.
