Artist notes and sketch, dated July 25 and 26 1819.

After we had ascended the hill from Lynmouth the

Porlock Road Saw an Effect of the Clouds rolling over

the Sea with a distant point of the Coast of Wales seen under

it.

The Same Cloud we saw over as we ascended to a higher part

of the hill the Sea & Coast of Wales quite clear.-

Saw Porlock & walked up on the high Ground of Hawke

Combe & Saw it again with as much pleasure as I did the first

time there are in it some fine studies of trees particularly [??}

found much wood cut down.

The [Cullom?] Woods are not near so [fine?] I have now been thro’

the trees a Second time.

The Lym River looks well from the junction often two streams

at once. downwards. Little Alpine Road from Lynmouth is

very Grand for some way on the Edge of the [???] next

the Sea,- many of the farm Houses are situated in very

Beautiful Counties- [Wingate?] and [Salcombe?] in particular.

                                                                              July 25 1819

Sea Gulls in a compact map on the sea others hovering over

them. Some flying higher & others flying to it & from it. Saw

the Circumstance Several times at Clovelly.
