[Working transcription:]
After we had ascended the hill from Lynmouth the
Porlock Road Saw an Effect of the Clouds rolling over
the Sea with a distant point of the Coast of Wales seen under
it.
[sketch]
The Same Cloud we saw over as we ascended to a higher part
of the hill the Sea & Coast of Wales quite clear.-
[sketch]
Saw Porlock & walked up on the high Ground of Hawke
Combe & Saw it again with as much pleasure as I did the first
time there are in it some fine studies of trees particularly [??}
found much wood cut down.
The [Cullom?] Woods are not near so [fine?] I have now been thro’
the trees a Second time.
The Lym River looks well from the junction often two streams
at once. downwards. Little Alpine Road from Lynmouth is
very Grand for some way on the Edge of the [???] next
the Sea,- many of the farm Houses are situated in very
Beautiful Counties- [Wingate?] and [Salcombe?] in particular.
July 25 1819
