Kilmington Church

This pencil and wash illustration, drawn on the 28th of October, 1901, shows the exterior of the 15th century tower of St Giles' Church, Kilmington. The remainder of the church was rebuilt in 1862 to the designs of the architect Thomas Talbot Bury.

Thomas Talbot Bury (1809-1877) was a London based architect, who was responsible for building and restoring churches, houses, and public buildings across the south of England. Bury was also well known for his engravings and lithography and exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1846 and 1872.  His art was used to illustrate a number of books and he was particularly noted for the sketches he produced for Ackermann's series of lithographs and aquatints of the 'Coloured Views of the Liverpool and Manchester Railway' in 1831.
